Bringing World Cleanup Day to Manchester

Since 2018, more that 139 million people across 211 countries have taken part in World Cleanup Day (20^th September), a global movement that encourages communities to come together and make a difference.

Almost everyone knows the importance of keeping our cities clean, but it goes beyond aesthetics. Litter and waste are actually harmful, and have a direct impact on our physical health, mental wellbeing, and the ecosystems that exist around us.

Last year, Manchester recorded 14,963 fly-tipping incidents and issued 11,952 fines for littering. Environmental pollution is one of the biggest problems that our planet faces. Both natural and urban spaces have been poisoned by waste, and it’s our responsibility to not only collect the garbage, but to help increase environmental consciousness.

Manchester City Council’s vision for a cleaner city was made clear in their fly-tipping and litter strategy 2026-35, and while local councils are the backbone of urban cleanliness, real progress depends on all of us working together. Communities and corporations have a duty to make spaces feel safer and easier to enjoy, for ourselves and future generations.

World Cleanup Day is a great opportunity for Manchester-based businesses to contribute to the preservation of our environment. Whether it’s the beautiful green spaces that Manchester boasts, or the various neighbourhoods and communities, every campaign and initiative matters.

But why does it matter so much to us? In 2024, our co-founders made a bold step, transitioning from careers in law, to building a property management & cleaning service from the ground up. We remain independently owned, dedicated to making a real difference across this beautiful city.

Our goal has always been to bring a shine back to the Greater Manchester boroughs. That's why Luminare Services is proud to be launching a community initiative this weekend, in line with World Cleanup Day.

Stay tuned to find out more about our upcoming community initiative. Manchester is our home, let’s keep it clean!
